HEARD NY Horses & June

We watched the 'Crossing' at HEARD NY. It was a special art exhibit at Grand Central Station. I couldn't believe how excited June got. We planned to stay only a few minutes, but she was so into it we stayed for the entire performance. It's funny to re-watch some of her reactions throughout the show.

Dylan's Candy Bar

I've been talking about wanting "Runts" as a snack for some time now. Anytime I go to a grocery store or pharmacy I look to see if they have Runts. No such luck. Are they a Western US thing?? My search hadn't gotten crazy by any means. I just wanted the treat and assumed I'd run into it. Well, Curt was sweet as always. He tried to find a store on Manhattan with the Runts. While searching for a place to get them he came across this blog about a woman searching for Runts in NYC. When he learned they were so hard to find, he was determined to bring me some home after work on Friday. He went to Dylan's Candy Bar and brought this sweet bag of treats home for us.

I don't think June knew it was full of candy, but she enjoyed toting it around the apartment for quite some time. To add to that, she looked so cute we decided to grab the camera to take a photo. She stopped and posed as soon as the camera pointed at her. She kept smiling and posing. We laughed and laughed. She's never really done that before. Her smile was adorable 

Eventually she looked inside and was pleased to find treats 

She signs "help" when she needs help opening something or reaching. As soon as the candy was in view she frantically signed "Help!" You'll see she does the sign backwards--but that's fine with me. I taught her the sign so she'd do it instead of crying when she was frustrated. It's worked wonders (and is irresistibly cute).

And, of course, Curt couldn't leave that candy store without spending $**.** (won't say how much). Grandma, Mommy and Daddy will each gain a few pounds this weekend.

All By Myself

June has become more and more adamant about feeding herself lately. It's been fun to watch her skills and technique evolve and improve. Here's a short video of breakfast on a Friday morning a couple weeks ago:

Note--this was less than an hour before sweet June sent my iPhone for a plunge in the toilet. She had never tried to put anything in the toilet so I was, nonetheless, surprised to see my phone when I heard the splash. It never revived. Oh well. Glad Apple has a good replacement policy.

Shoe Fettish

June LOVES shoes. She loves Mommy's shoes. She loves Daddy's shoes. She loves anyone's shoes! One of our daily activities is playing with Mommy's shoes. I sit in the rocking chair or just stand and watch her go through my shoes. Almost without fail she brings me one or two pairs and insists I put them on. Sometimes she has me change a few times, other times she is happy with her first selection. She walks around in them too.

Easter Egg Hunt

A local community church holds an annual Easter egg hunt at a nearby school. Curt was busy with Cub Scout activities this morning (Pinewood Derby), so I took June. The event was really impressive (games, face painting, egg hunts organized by age, etc.). There was a large turnout too.

June actually had a lot of fun looking for the eggs and putting them in her bag. I'd point to the egg and say, "Put it in your bag." If I didn't tell her, she just stood and watched the other kids.

On the way home we stopped and got a Boston creme donut to share

Fruit Loops and more

June and I made Fruit Loop necklaces on Thursday.

June's New Scooter

June has a micro mini scooter with the child attachment. We just got the parts in the mail yesterday. She loves it!

Manhattan Children's Museum

It was free day on Friday evening so Anette and I ventured there with the girls. We won't ever go on free night again. It was SO crowded. Either way I'm glad I went because it was a cute museum and I realized it isn't worth the money to take June there until she's a bit older. Our kitchen cupboards are just as fun to her as the exhibits there at this age.

The smoked Chipotle Tabasco sauce is the best. Daddy told June it was hot so she blew on it.

Goodnight Moon Outing

We visited the Goodnight Moon house with our friends the Winders. The author, Margaret Wise Brown, lived there while penning her famous children's books.
