Happy Birthday, Curt!

It was Curt's birthday on Sunday and we had a nice time celebrating.
Getting ready for bedtime

One more year before the big 3-0.

The only downer is the 3 of us have been rather sick the last few days. Curt went to the doctor yesterday to get some antibiotics as his sinus infection/bronchitis wasn't getting any better. Welcome to NY, huh? I think it's because we have finally taken a break from all the stresses of moving and our weak immune systems decided to take a break too.

Happy 4th Anniversary!

I can't believe it was only 4 years ago Curt and I were married. It feels like he's been a part of my life forever. What a blessing to know that he will be a part of my life forever!!! Here are some photos of the past....

First Date (January 2006)

Engagement (April 2008)

August 21, 2008 at the Salt Lake Temple

Curt was in NYC at training on the day of our 1st anniversary and I was home in Denver. He sent me flowers the day of, and we went to dinner the day he flew home (his birthday, actually).

We then had our 'honeymoon' in Jamaica. After our wedding we stayed in St. George, Utah and decided to do a 'real' trip for our 1st anniversary instead. It was an amazing trip! I highly recommend that idea to anyone getting married in the near future.

2nd anniversary in Nice, France

3rd anniversary in Zurich, Switzerland

4th anniversary, New York, NY

Curt planned an AMAZING anniversary date and surprised me with the details the day before. From Switzerland he booked Wicked tickets AND got a babysitter (she was really, really great). I was so surprised! Curt is so great at surprising me--always has been, and hasn't lost his touch.
The evening was wonderful. We went to a great NY pizzeria before. Restaurants in NYC are more pricey than other US locations, but compared to Geneva we are always getting a great deal :)

Welcome to Manhattan!

I must say I'm loving almost everything about New York so far. The people are friendly, there are a lot of other babies to entertain June (and tons of dogs?? I had no clue NYC is like Denver when it comes to dogs), endless walks and parks, etc. We're really going to love it here. We got here Saturday evening and are settled into our temporary housing in Midtown West/Hell's Kitchen. I'm still learning the neighborhoods here. Curt takes a shuttle from our place to and from work each day (about a 35 minute walk).
Our view. The white corner (middle-right) is the doorway between the bedroom and living room. Bedroom windows on left and living room windows on right. I sometimes feel like I'm living in a movie or TV when I look out the window.

June Playing

Just some cute photos of June playing the last weeks

She loved looking out the windows at the Johnson's

When I was unpacking this week I turned around to find her in one of the suitcases. She is starting to love climbing on everything that is waist-height or below

Enjoying Breakfast

This morning Curt and I were both eating bran flakes for breakfast. June clearly felt left out so I put a pile on the table for her to enjoy. She was elated.

Yummy treats

Clearly the most efficient way

Nice view at 6:30am

Showing Daddy her yummy treats (note the one stuck on her pinky...)

London, England

We had a wonderful trip last weekend. It was really weird to travel without June. We missed her very much. We arrived in London Wednesday night and went to our apartment. That's all we did for Day 1.
Day 2:
We went to the British Museum

Saw some real Olympic medals,

the Rosetta Stone,

and the rest of the Parthenon we didn't see while in Athens.

Big Ben at the Parliament building

Westminster Abbey

Certain parts of London were closed to traffic during the Olympics. Only official Olympic BMWs could be seen on those roads.

Entering the Horses Guard Parade for our first event

Men's beach volleyball finals
(Netherlands vs. Latvia (Bronze) and Germany (Gold)vs. Brazil (Silver)

Piccadilly Circus after the game. Getting us ready for Times Square

Day 3:
Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace

I had to laugh because they were playing the Bee Gees "Staying Alive" when we arrived. I expected the music to be a little more regal.

After seeing the crown jewels inside the Tower of London. The Tower tour was pretty fun.

Tower Bridge, in Olympic fashion

Our evening activity was seeing the musical Les Miserables at the Queen's Theater. We both read the unabridged version of Hugo's novel in preparation. I had seen the musical but it was Curt's first time. We both loved it!
Day 4:

Mobs of people leaving the underground station to get to Wembley Stadium. The streets were literally full of people all the way to the gates (look closely under the Olympic sign).

Wembley's famous arch

Inside the stadium watching Mexico (Gold) vs. Brazil (Silver)

Japanese dinner at Tokyo Diner. The curry was delicious! Tasted a lot like the curry my brother Russ makes.

Day 5: We flew home from London to Geneva to be greeted by Grandma and Junebug at the Creux-de-Genthod train station. What a joyous reunion!!!

Brussels, Belgium

I went on a very quick day trip to Brussels. The training ended earlier than anticipated so I had about 2 hours before my train left to the airport. I made the most of the afternoon and saw a little of the old town. The best part was buying chocolates. We had to compare Swiss chocolates to Belgian chocolates...and I must sheepishly admit the Belgian chocolates fared very, very well in the competition. I was extremely impressed!

Train station with sun-bathing umbrella

At Grand Place, Brussels central square

Chocolate shopping. They have the chocolate making on display throughout the day at Chocopolis.

I inadvertently ran into this famous statue. Why is it so famous?? (called Manneken Pis)

Yummy lunch of frites and mussels

The chocolate tasting at home with Curt, Mom and Paul

Which would be the favorite? Definitely Neuhaus (my favorite was the Astrid praline), followed by Chocopolis or Helene de Troies. I was totally disappointed with Leonidas.
