June's Friend

Last week I put up the mirror on the activity mat. June immediately found her new 'friend' and started cracking smiles and jabbering. It's still entertaining to watch her reactions. This video is from today:

June: 2 Months!

Our little June bug continues to grow and grow. At her 2 month appointment on the 13th she weighed 5.9kg, was 58cm long and had a head circumference of 41cm (for those that don't do the metric system: 13lbs, 22.8", 16"). She also got her first round of immunizations-a shot in each leg. She was a good patient. Poor thing didn't know why/what the doctor did to her :(

June is smiling a LOT every day. She is making more and more sounds and will sometimes have a 'conversation' with Mommy and try to 'sing' when Mommy sings. It is very cute to see her surprise herself by the sounds she makes. I've never been with a baby enough to see the process of discovering how to make sounds. That's one of the best things in the day.

She eats about every 3hrs during the day and rarely spits up. Her record-setting night sleep was the night after immunizations: 8hrs! Yeah-That only happened once. Either way I woke up probably every hour after 4 wondering if everything was okay. On good nights she'll get a 5.5hr stretch of sleeping straight.

June also graduated to size 2 diapers. Pretty exciting. After having like 5 blow-outs in size 1 Mommy knew it was time to move on.

Every day June has a lot of "awake" time. Normally from 9 or so to lunch time and then 5pm until bed time. Bedtime for this little girl varies. She usually goes to bed at the same time as we do (10 or maybe 11), but on occasion (like last night) she'll decide she's not tired and Mommy reads Les Miserables while holding her. She usually loses her battle to sleep after like 30 or 40 minutes.

Sometimes June becomes a little fussy during her awake time if I am holding her. It's not normal for this calm baby to cry. After eliminating 'hungry' and 'messy,' it means she wants to be on her activity mat. She likes her independent time and sometimes just wants to be lying down, stretched out and alone. We love that activity mat :) She sometimes talks to the lion. Also, June is a kicker. I can't decide if she's kicking like a swimmer or like a soccer player. Anytime she's laying down those feet are going. She wears herself out kicking so much.

Lastly, June is the world traveller and has been to many cities in Switzerland and also through Luxembourg, France, Austria and Germany. She does well in the car, which often just puts her to sleep, and loves walks in the stroller. We generally go on a walk each day, mostly to say hi to Daddy at work.

Pruning

Two weeks ago during morning runs I enjoyed watching the annual tree-pruning around Lac Leman, aka Lake Geneva (thanks Nana Calder for babysitting so I could go during daylight). These guys are so fast and efficient. It really was entertaining to see the progress they made each day.
I love these trees along the lake front. They run next to the walking path on the lake and also across the street. The bark is spectacular and camo-like and they are very full during the spring/summer. I have no clue what kind they are, but they are beautiful.

(This picture doesn't do justice. The guys must have been on morning break. Usually there are a few guys harnessed in each trees, a couple pruning from below and several on the ground gathering the trimmings and loading them into strategically placed dumpsters. They run like a well-oiled machine.)

P.S. And if you were wondering, I finally started running post-pregnancy about 3 weeks ago. I've gone off and on and it feels good to get out...but I can't lie- It's really discouraging to see how much slower I am. I'm definitely out of shape and have a long way to go. I think I would run more if I were in better shape, but then again, not running won't get me back into shape either...

Today

It's hard to believe December is halfway over. Wow. This morning Nana Calder flew back to the US. Our home has been busy the last 6 weeks with visits from June's wonderful grandmas and little weekend vacations. I wish life would just slow down sometimes, but I don't think it ever does. There is always something new everyday, and I should be grateful for that. 

Today we get to go to June's 2 month check up (and she gets her immunizations). She continues to grow and be adorable. Here are the posts I hope to do before too long:

I can't get enough of June's smiles. She's been sneaking them in for the last couple of days and they're becoming more consistent---I was pretty lucky to get one on video this afternoon!

 Though last Thursday was a 'normal' day in Switzerland, we still wanted to celebrate our US holiday. Curt worked as normal but was able to come home a bit early. I made us a traditional feast while Nana helped watch June.

Gravy, rolls, turkey, stuffing (1st time I didn't use StoveTop), broccoli, mashed potatoes, yams and pumpkin pie. We had turkey breast only...Meridee and I did see a 220CHF turkey in the window at the butcher--wonder why we just did the white meat? (220 Swiss Francs is approx $240)
