We went to the Rockaways again last weekend. Our ward was assigned to volunteer on Sunday so we had a brief Sacrament Meeting at 7:45am and then got on buses to clean up.

There was such an outpouring of gratitude from the local community. The first time we went was the first weekend
Mormon Helping Hands was there. Several weeks later now, everyone recognized the yellow vests. People pulled over in their cars to thank us, many people stopped us to see if we had time to help them or one of their neighbors, etc. It was wonderful to see the community united to recover. They often commented, "You guys are the only ones still coming."
This time the job was much easier physically. We spent a good amount of time moving items in a house to the top floor and garage so the main floor could be ripped out and replaced the next day. It's amazing what a few extra people can do.
This sweet family of 6 (4 children) will be out of their home for months. They are in a temporary apartment in Brooklyn until they can move home. The kids have been attending different schools, the parents travel to their home on the weekends to clean up, etc. It really shook up their lives.
How heartwarming and I love the comment, "You guys are the only ones still coming"!..Well I don't love that the LDS people are the only ones still coming but that it's so heartwarming to have yet another confirmation of God's love for his children and that He is at the Helm of His Church and it is truly in His Hands through his servants. Way to be Curt and Allison!
